The adapter installs onto your Presta valve stem and converts it to a standard valve stem, allowing you to use your VIAIR compressor to inflate the tire to your desired pressure.
In the cycling world, bicycle tire pressures vary depending on the activity. For instance, mountain-bikers run ~15psi-35psi in their tires, gravel and city commuters ~30psi-70psi, and road cyclists run higher pressures at ~70psi-110psi. Using the correct compressor is important for achieving proper bike tire inflation – For pressures below 60 PSI the 85P or larger unit can be used, for pressures above 60psi an 88P or larger unit is recommended. Due to the smaller air volume in bike tires compressors that use an on/off switch require closer monitoring as the tire can quickly over-inflate and pop if left unattended, whereas using an automatic compressor with a gas station-style inflation gun offers more safety and control. Please check the amp rating of your power outlet if purchasing a cigarette outlet powered compressor.
