Recently, over 500 of the best hot rods, customer classics, muscle cars, and motorcycles competed against one another at the Grand National Roadster Show (formally known as the Oakland Roadster Show). In its 69th year, The Grand National Roadster Show is now the longest running indoor car show in the world! This custom car show was located at the Fairplex Fairgrounds in Pomona, CA for its 15th consecutive year.
All throughout the weekend, a team of judges focused on detail, quality, condition, safety, and originality to select a winner. These experienced experts in the car show scene are arranged into teams that focus and keep reliability within a point system for each vehicle class.
The main focus of each point is for quality and degree of difficulty in modification. The top achievable award is America’s Most Beautiful Roadster, with a cash prize of $10,000! Other notable awards are: Outstanding Overall, Outstanding Detail, Outstanding Color Design, Outstanding Engine, and Outstanding Interior.
The winner of this year’s 2018 America’s Most Beautiful Roadster award went to David Martin, owner of the 1931 Ford Roadster. Build credit for this beauty goes to Hot Rods and Hobbies out of Signal Hill, CA. You can easily see how this vehicle continues to set the bar for future winners to come.

An additional 400+ custom vehicles join the event Saturday & Sunday for the 13th Annual Grand Daddy Drive-In. These outdoor candidates park between the buildings giving the show a personal feel while walking from hall to hall. This show continues to appeal to their audience and even provides many varieties of live entertainment, and opportunity to bid on artwork created by the best Pin stripers in the nation, with proceeds going to select charities.
Tommy McWeeney, a notable Pin Striper working at Coast Airbrush for the last 12 years, partnered with our friends at Auto Revolution to highlight his father’s 1972 Chevy C-10. Located at the Createx Colors booth, they are a world-class water based paint company specializing in custom airbrush and Metallic colors. Tommy has been building trucks since 1993 and has his own personal pin striping company called Kustoms Inc. Inspired by pin-up models and other classic rat rod designs, you can find his one-of-a-kind custom art pieces on skateboard decks, helmets and much more!

Notable outdoor vehicles include Pin-up model, Alyssa Kay’s, 1965 Cadillac Coupe DeVille “Tequila Sunrise.” This VIAIR equipped caddy was a showstopper at the 2017 SEMA show at the Las Vegas Convention Center and kick’s off her 2018 show circuit with a custom paint job done by House of Kolor. Alyssa is a published pin-up and cover model and was crowned Miss Vintage Muscle Beach 2016 & 2017.

With the 2018 show in the books, we can’t wait to see what 2019’s Grand National Roadster Show brings! Learn more about the Grand National Roadster show here.
