As camping season kicks off, most RVers begin formulating a plan for their upcoming travel adventures. When “home is where you park it”, your destinations become infinite! This is one of the main reasons why our full-time RVers are also full-time social influencers. And because they’ve become experts for mobile living, they are able to share with others RVing tips, and fundamental items every RVer should have on the road.
The responsibility of maintaining an RV full time can be a daunting task. Often, our influencers are couples that share the teamwork it takes to balance these large duties. We know women are a vital part of the RV industry, so we had a chance to break it down with some of the most popular RV social influencers to showcase just how effortless it can be to maintain proper tire pressure and safety while out on the road!

We caught up with popular female RVer, Rae of Getaway Couple. Rae and Jason have been full time RVers since 2017. They are proud dog parents and ghost tour enthusiasts. Check out their experiences and top tips for RV essentials in our interview with Rae below.

How did you become full time RVers and get started with a social channel?
My husband, Jason, and I stumbled upon the RV lifestyle. We love to travel because it allows us to relax and feel true happiness. We always pushed each other to be successful; make more money, move to a nicer place, drive a better car… but something was always missing.
After a few years, we realized we were knee deep in a crazy game called “Keeping Up with the Joneses.” We had plenty of “things” but no internal satisfaction. We needed something new in our lives that allowed us to continue to work, yet travel with our dog. That’s when the idea of full-time RVing was presented to us via YouTube. Needless to say, the idea stuck!
We changed our focus and worked extremely hard to pay off debt and buy our RV. In July of 2017, we created our own definition of “The American Dream” and hit the road! We decided to document our journey on social media to show others this lifestyle can easily be achieved and what it’s all about. While we do showcase the best parts of our journey, we always make sure to keep it real and share the realities of RV living. We make sure to show our mistakes and a lot of people love how genuine and honest we are about this lifestyle.

What is your favorite part of being a full time RVer?
It has to be the people we’ve met! I can honestly say I’ve met other RVers who are going to be lifelong friends. Connecting with others on the road is hard at first, but once you begin to find like-minded individuals, the journey becomes ten times more fun! My other favorite part of being a full time RVer would have to be the experiences. Rolling into a new city knowing there are a ton of sights to see and places to explore never gets old!

You are a full-time RVer and social influencer. How do you balance both?
Honestly, it’s HARD. To add an extra layer of stress, Jason still works full time as a remote contractor, so we are somewhat tied to his schedule. And, when Jason is “off the clock”, he’s still doing a ton of work for Getaway Couple. My full time job is managing our social media platforms, editing videos for our YouTube account, fostering the relationships with our sponsors, and so much more!
Our work to build our business is never done. We can safely say we are much happier now than we ever were in our old lives. We don’t mind working late hours because it provides the flexibility to get out and explore new states, towns and National Parks that we never would have had the chance to see. We do schedule time to get out and explore because of our workaholic personalities but that’s what works for us. I think anyone who is considering this lifestyle, and wants to be a social influencer, will find what works best for them as time goes on.

Approximately how many places have you visited, and what are your favorites?
We have visited over 80 cities in 26 different states including 18 National Parks! It’s so hard to choose favorites but my top three are Moab, UT; Savannah, GA; and Hot Springs, AK. Each one of these places offers a unique experience I believe everyone should try at least once.
The landscape in Moab is simply breathtaking! As much as I’m embarrassed to admit it, it’s the only place that brought me to tears once I was there. Savannah is full of history, architecture and folklore. Since we love taking ghost tours, Savannah has some of the best! Lastly, Hot Springs surprised us with its natural beauty and adorable downtown. Half of the town is a National Park and they still have functioning bathhouses with natural hot spring water. Simply put, we were in heaven.

Most popular RV trend you noticed this year?
I think the most popular trend has to be RV renovations. I feel like everyone is updating their RV to a lighter and brighter color palette. I’m definitely on board with this trend!
Do you think a VIAIR portable compressor should be vital tool in every RVer’s emergency kit?
Absolutely! I wasn’t aware most gas station air pumps only fill tires up to 80 PSI and our RV tires need to be at 110 PSI. We went through the trouble once of trying to find a place that could fill our RV tires when they were low and after that headache, we got a VIAIR tire inflator and never looked back!

On a scale of 1-10, how difficult was it to air up/down using your VIAIR RV-Specific Portable Tire Inflator? How long did it take you?
The first day we received our tire inflator, we both wanted to learn how it worked right away! I’d say it took us about 10 minutes to look over everything, read through the instructions and begin. On a scale of 1-10 I’d easily put it down as a 2. The only reason it isn’t a 1 is because I occasionally fight with the “quick connect” feature on the pump which could easily be a user error.

As a company with many women ourselves, we love that there are more women involved in the RV scene, compared to before! Do you have any thoughts on this trend – of more women being in the industry? Do you have any advice for women RVers who are getting acquainted with RV gear?
My thoughts on this trend are that it’s awesome! Before we hit the road, my background was in Finance and Project Management, both fields that didn’t have a ton of women. The last two years before I left, we were hiring more women and it truly filled my heart. I believe women are becoming more comfortable with themselves and simply going after what makes them happy, instead of what society tells them to do.
My only advice for women who are getting more acquainted with RVing, is to not be afraid to mess up. It’s okay to make mistakes; it’s how people learn! If this lifestyle is what you want, learning something new lights a fire in you and chasing something that is scary but still excites you, then don’t you dare give up!
